Park Cleanup Day

27 Scouts (click here to see event photo) and their families participated in this year’s Lighthouse District Park Cleanup Day.  Well Done!  We spent an hour at Pineway Ponds Park on Saturday, April 19 cleaning up the debris.  The boys were happy to help out and excited to share their findings with each other.  All participants will be recognized at the April pack meeting with a patch commemorating this year’s event.   Stay tuned for future events to help keep our town looking good.  Pack 92 expects to work with Ogden Rec in the coming months on other projects around town that are suitable for boys this age.

Scouting for Food Campaign

Thanks to the 40 Pack 92 scouts (and their parents) who joined the more than 10,000 local Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to distribute plastic bags throughout Monroe County on Saturday, March 29. On April 5, scouts (older kids) will pick up the bags containing donated clothing and food.  All will be sorted for local food pantries and then distributed to needy families in Rochester and Monroe County.

During last year’s Scouting for Food drive, 157 tons of food was collected and distributed, generating enough food to stock more than 69 local food cupboards for four months. This is approximately one-third of the emergency meals given out annually in Monroe County.  THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT – GREAT EFFORT!

Cub Adventure Camp

The adventure takes place at the J. Warren Cutler Scout Reservation located near Naples, NY (about 30 miles south of here).  Cub Scouts (and a parent/guardian) live in one of five themed villages for three days and two nights.  While there they participate in camp wide activities such as boating and fishing, swimming, nature, archery, and shooting sports as well as themed village programs.

If you haven’t registered your son yet, there are still openings.  You may go to any session that suits your schedule; siblings age 4-11 are welcome at some sessions.  Click here for more info on camp.  Check current availability for each camp session.

Upcoming Events

2008-05-16 (Fri.) Pack 92 Rocket Launch

Whoosh!  We’ll launch air-powered bottle rockets at Pineway Ponds Park -Owens Lodge! Flyer

  • Pizza & Drinks provided by the Pack.
  • Bring a dessert to auction off and some cash to bid, if you can.
  • Come after 5:30pm – launch will start after 6pm.
  • Make rockets ahead of the launch or when you get there (bring 2 liter bottle).
  • Any standard 2 liter soda bottle will work but must not leak.  It will be filled with 80 pounds per square inch of air.  Any holes will cause it to rupture when filled with air pressure.
  • Fins and a nose cone will stabilize the rocket.  Fins must be above the curve of the bottle or it will not fit the launcher.
  • Check online for ideas.  Here are some links to rocket info:   Basic rocket (use manila file folders for the fins); another basic rocket and a fancier version with parachute (note - we don’t use the water that they mention).

See you there!
