Spencerport Pack92

Sign-up for summer camps is still going on.  This year, there are now 3 summer camp options (1 day camp and 2 overnight camps):
1.Twilight Camp (at Camp Eastman in Irondequoit):
Runs Mon., June 21 - Thu. June 24th from 5pm and 8:30 pm. The Scouts are provided a meal each evening. Parents are welcome to eat with the Scouts for a moderate ($2.50) cost per meal, which must be pre-ordered and pre-paid. Scouts will participate in three activities each evening, and may consist of items such as songs, wood projects, nature, water-park activities and much more. Each Scout will also receive a t-shirt and patch for attending the camp. This is not a drop off camp. Cost is $40 per scout. Sign-up no later than June 12th, 2010.

2. Cub Adventure Camp at Camp Cutler in Naples, NY.
Costs $130/attendee (parent and child).  The scouts (and a parent/guardian) live in one of five themed villages for 3 days/2 nights (during one of eleven sessions).  While there, they participate in boating, fishing, swimming, nature, archery, and shooting sports, as well as themed village programs. Siblings age 4-11 are welcome at some sessions.  To learn more, see below…

2. Cub Resident Camp at Camp Dittmer in Phelps, NY
WHAT: Cub Resident Camp is a three day, two night camp featuring the theme “100 Years of Scouting.” At this camp, campers will experience Action and Stationary Archery, Fishing, Nature Photography, Cub Cart Racing, Campfire Cooking, Boating, Swimming, Historical Journey of Scouting, Crafts and Outdoor Movie Night.
WHO: Cubs of all ranks are welcome at camp. The early bird price is $150.00. Parents/Guardians are welcome for a $30.00 food charge. (Not sure when the early bird price ends or ended).
WHEN: August 15-17 and August 19-21

Thank you to all Pack 92 families that participated in the BSA’s annual popcorn sale! This year Pack 92’s total popcorn sales were $12,477 which means ~ $3900 for the pack (and about the same for the local council). That is a good start on our pack expenses for the 2009/2010 scout year!

Pack 92 t-shirts (lime with navy lettering) will be ordered in December if your scout still needs one.  These are available for $10 for youth and adult sizes.  Ladies V-necks also available for $11.  There is also a small quantity of new Navy with gold shirts available for $10 and used navy t-shirts available for free in the pack ‘bin’.   See Bev Baker, if interested in any of the above. 

Pack t-shirts are worn to events and outings that do not require a uniform, when we plan to get dirty and to summer camp.  Click here to see the Pack t-shirt in use by some of the boys in  Den 8 on an outing to the NYS Museum of Transportation a couple years back. 

Happy Summer! Pack 92 is already at work for the 2009-10 program year.  We have made a few changes to the regular schedule and so this is a ’save the date’ notice so you don’t miss our major events.  Stay tuned for details!

We had a great derby this year, with a great turnout and lots of fast cars!  Official results and awards were announced at the January pack meeting!  Congrats to Den 10 for being the fastest den for the second year in a row and to Ethan W from Den 8 for having the fastest racer in the pack this year!!

Twenty-one scouts and siblings from Pack 92 recently spent a morning at Pineway Ponds Park to attend our first ever Pack 92 Cub Olympics.   The kids had a great time participating in events such as the long jump, triple jump, discus, javelin, volleyball, a relay race, tug of war and water balloon splash.  The kids recorded their scores, received a certificate and water bottle medal (the melted freeze pops even tasted great too). 

We also learned about practicing the Cub Scout ‘Leave No Trace’ policy by cleaning up (the water balloon shreds) in the park before we left.  Those who stayed at the end had some fun with a water balloon catapult and some face painting too.

Thanks to everyone who came out to this event!  The kids truly enjoyed.  Special thanks to all the parent helpers at this event.  We cannot do it without your participation!  Check out some event photos…

Pack 92 Conservation Project

Thanks to all who participated in our sneaker recycling project this summer. Sneakers were collected and brought to the Seneca Park Zoo in conjunction with their Jungle Jog on July 20, then later shipped to Nike where they will be turned into gymnasium floors and athletic tracks. 

We surpassed our goal of 25 pairs of Pack 92 sneakers.  This can be used towards the Scout Conservation award for those that participated.  For more info on this award, click here. 

Thanks to all who turned out to honor the men and women who have served in the U.S. armed forces.  We had 22 scouts participate this year, which was 2 more than last year and always nice to see.  The parade started at West Avenue and went through the village down to the Veterans Park.  A short Memorial Day service followed and then we marched back through the Village.  A few photos submitted by the Sweetland and Toland families are in the Gallery…

27 Scouts (click here to see event photo) and their families participated in this year’s Lighthouse District Park Cleanup Day.  Well Done!  We spent an hour at Pineway Ponds Park on Saturday, April 19 cleaning up the debris.  The boys were happy to help out and excited to share their findings with each other.  All participants will be recognized at the April pack meeting with a patch commemorating this year’s event.   Stay tuned for future events to help keep our town looking good.  Pack 92 expects to work with Ogden Rec in the coming months on other projects around town that are suitable for boys this age. 

Thanks to the 40 Pack 92 scouts (and their parents) who joined the more than 10,000 local Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to distribute plastic bags throughout Monroe County on Saturday, March 29. On April 5, scouts (older kids) will pick up the bags containing donated clothing and food.  All will be sorted for local food pantries and then distributed to needy families in Rochester and Monroe County. 

During last year’s Scouting for Food drive, 157 tons of food was collected and distributed, generating enough food to stock more than 69 local food cupboards for four months. This is approximately one-third of the emergency meals given out annually in Monroe County.  THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT – GREAT EFFORT!
